Greeting cards designed by Poortraits
Daryl has worked in advertising for many years as a media director. In his spare time, he taps into his hometown memories to come up with a wide variety of characters. "It all begins with the eyes...they dictate the person's character", he explains while sketching on a piece of cardboard. "You never really know who will show up."
Daryl was raised in Texas, but spent his formative years in Los Angeles and San Francisco. He studied art in college, but insists he is a self-taught cartoonist. "I believe I learned more about portraiture studying with William Tuttle, Metro Goldwyn Mayer's chief make-up artist. When you are applying makeup to a person’s face, you must study the shadows and lines. This awareness enhances any drawings you do."
When not drawing, Daryl enjoys traveling with his partner and their two Corgis, reading, and is a history and mystery buff.
